Laser Center/Edge Finder ® s a new tool for your milling machine CNC Router water jet.  In fact, many    CNC  machine tools and drilling machines
will save setup time. For the new Home Shop Machinist and CNC hobbists and professionals alike it will eliminate the frustrations and doubts of learning the century old indirect method with the conventional Edge Finders or Wiggler.

The Laser Center/Edge Finder® is finding new applications in a variety of working situations in the metals, wood and plastic industries. It will save setup time and eliminate frustration.
The simplicity of visual reference allows machine operators to quickly locate punch marks, edges, centers of material, centers of holes, scribed lines. It can also be used to align vises, rotary tables and spin indexers.

The Laser Center/Edge Finder ® is a Direct Method center or edge finder. Current Center/Edge Finders are indirect methods. Current Finders require the mill operator to determine where the edge of the material is by imposing sufficient pressure on the finder to just slightly bump the material and then move over one-half the diameter of the edge finder to locate the true edge of the material. Another accepted method is a center/edge finder that has a spring loaded conical disc that kicks sideways when touching the edge of the material and the Mill operator then moves the mill table over one-half the diameter of the edge finder to locate the true edge of the material.

The mechanical/electrical center/edge finders function as the mechanical ones do except that instead of a spring loaded offset disc it utilizes electrical continuity to determine when the edge finder has contacted the material (not always useful on non-conducting material). The Mill operator hears an audible signal or a light comes on indicating contact has been made. The operator must still add half the diameter of the edge finder to determine the true edge of the material.

The Laser Center/Edge Finder ® only requires the mill operator to move the table under the small laser beam until the laser light shows that the light is at the edge of the material to locate the true edge of the material. If the mill operator is attempting to position the mill quill to a center punched mark on the material, the table is moved until the laser light centers on the punched mark. In both instances this direct method eliminates the most common mistake of forgetting to add half the diameter of the conventional center/edge finder to locate the true edge of the material.

Frequently Asked Questions:

If I am an international customer ordering multiple units, do I need to add "International

Shipping" more than once?

You only need to add "International Shipping" to your cart one (1) time for orders of six or fewer units. If you would like to have more than six units shipped overseas, please place on-line orders in groups of six (or less), or contact us by phone or email to place an order of more than six units.

Do I need a PayPal account or can I just use my credit card?

You do not need a PayPal account to use the PayPal Shopping Cart.

During checkout, if you prefer to use a credit card rather than a paypal account, simply click on the box indicating "If you do not currently have a paypal account", and fill out the information requested thereafter.

What is special about the Wet Cabinet CNC LC/EF?

The CNC LC/EF was created to provide Cabinet CNC machinists greater convenience and flexibility. A vinyl boot slides over the unit, and is sealed by the interface of an overhanging "shoulder" near the shank.
When the boot is in place the unit can remain in a wet environment. This allows the LC/EF to be left in the cabinet tool rack while the machine is cutting.

How accurate is the LC/EF?

Just as with the mechanical edge finder or wiggler, it depends in part on the skill of the operator. For those with moderate machining skills it will do a 100% of your work with far greater speed and accuracy than a wiggler or mechanical edge finder. Those with advance skills and working with very tight tolerances, the laser unit will do 80% to 90% of your work.

Estimated repeatable accuracy is 1/1000" ~ 0.02mm

How long will the batteries last ?

If left on continuously they last approximately 3 hours. If you turn it off after the few seconds it takes to use it, the batteries will last 6 months to a year. The batteries used are three of any of the following: LR 44, GPA76, AG 13, A 357, G13A. These are alkaline camera batteries available at drug and hardware stores or Radio Shack.

How long will the LC/EF last?

The laser module itself is rated for 10,000 hours of service.

What RPM do I run it at ?

You don’t turn on the machine to use it. Just place the machine in neutral and spin the chuck to check for alignment, different quills will have different run out. If it is being used in only one machine just chuck it up, turn on the laser and move the work piece under the Laser Dot.

How difficult is it to align the LC/EF ?

The quickest way to align the laser is to place the provided Laser Alignment Target Card on your vise. Spin the chuck by hand and see if it is making a circle or it is just a spot.

If it makes a circle, then it needs to be aligned.

Use the Allen wrench provided and loosen the north screw and tighten the south and then the east-west screws or vise-versa, similar to using a 4-jaw chuck. It should only take a few seconds to align the unit.

What is the size of the LC/EF ?

The original unit is 3 3/8” long, with a 3/4” diameter, with shank sizes of 3/8”, 1/2” or 10mm. The Mini version is 2 3/4” long with a 3/4” diameter and shank sizes of 1/4” or 6mm. The Wet Cabinet CNC model is 3 3/8" long with a 3/4" diameter and a 1/2" shank ONLY.
