Japanese House

A makeMZ ST original 3D puzzle

Traditional Japanese houses are built by erecting wooden columns on top of a flat foundation made of packed earth or stones. Wooden houses exist all over the world.
In order to avoid moisture from the ground, the floor is elevated several tens of centimeters and is laid across horizontal wooden floor beams. Areas like the kitchen and hallways have wooden flooring, but rooms in which people sit, such as the living room, are covered with mats called tatami that are made from woven rush grass. Japanese generally don't use chairs on top of tatami, so people either sit directly on the tatami or on flat cushions called zabuton. This is why people take off their shoes when entering a Japanese house.

Anne Shirley

Anne Shirley is a fictional character introduced in the 1908 novel Anne of
Green Gables by Lucy Maud Montgomery. Montgomery wrote in her journal that the
idea for Anne's story came from relatives who, planning to adopt an orphaned
boy received a girl instead. Anne Shirley's appearance was inspired by a photograph
which Montgomery clipped from the Metropolitan Magazine and kept, unaware of the
model's identity as the notorious 1900's Gibson Girl Evelyn Nesbit.

Anna Dickinson

Anna Elizabeth Dickinson (1842-1932)
“Dickinson was a very influential girl. She spoke out against slavery, which was widely accepted throughout the United States. It is difficult to speak for any cause when few people believe in it, so it must have been difficult for Dickinson as a girl. There have been many other brave women like her, even though some are not widely known. Many young girls speak out for something that they believe in, even by being active in a program such as Girls Learn International. There is a heroine in everyone, and Anna Dickinson was one such influential girl."
Anna Dickinson spoke to the U.S. House of Representatives, with President Abraham Lincoln in the audience, when she was just 21 years old.

Louisa Lane (1820-1897)
"The fact that she is a relation of some of the most talented actors of our day is Amazing.  Her strength and skill was to be admired as it must have taken a lot to be a woman running a successful theater company in those days, during a time when women were not given much power or influence.  She was the first female to manage a successful American theater and paved the way for other women in show business by showing others that they could succeed.  She must have been a very strong-willed, shrewd businesswoman to keep that theater going and have seen it to the success that it reached.”
